Google's new app that recognises objects - but not people

Google has just released an app that will recognise the world around you in real-time - but only objects.

By pointing your phone at things the information, harvested by artificial intelligence, is described to you through your phone. The only thing it won't do is scan people.

Google Vice President Anil Sabharwal say that people should think of google lens as and assistant and someone who is going to help people in life.

"It is very early days, and we acknowledge that this is more about showing the potential of what is possible, so over time its going to get better and better " he says.

Functions include a clothes option that matches styles to clothes you might fancy, and a menu reader which copies text from a menu and looks up the meal.

Google says it understands it must be transparent about all the functions of the lens, when it's aware of them.
